Tempo

Biomechanics

Short definition

Tempo of an exercise — speed and rhythm of each movement phase. The classic notation uses three digits: eccentric-pause-concentric.

Full definition

Tempo describes the duration of exercise phases: eccentric, pause, concentric, often written as 4-1-1 (4 s lowering, 1 s pause, 1 s lifting). In isometrics the pause (hold) phase is key. For dynamic and eccentric modes Samson-fit uses the extended four-phase notation — see "Tempo (4-phase)".

Examples

Tempo 4-2-1: 4 s lowering, 2 s isometric pause, 1 s lift.
