H+ (Hydrogen Ions)

Hydrogen Ions

MIDA

Short definition

Hydrogen ions — accumulate during anaerobic work, causing acidosis.

Full definition

H+ ions accumulate in the muscle during anaerobic glycolysis, lower pH (acidosis) and impair contraction. In MIDA, H+ accumulation marks fatigue and stimulates adaptation of buffers and mitochondria.

Examples

H+ accumulation causes the burn in high-rep sets.
